Katie McWeeney

Katie McWeeney is a multidisciplinary artist & designer based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. She grew up in the Mississippi River Delta and received her degrees at Louisiana Tech University (BFA) and Memphis College of Art (MFA) with concentrations in architecture, cultural studies, and mixed-media art practices.

Katie’s passion for art, design, and creative problem-solving is bolstered by 15+ years of professional experience as a business owner, consultant, and previous employee of the non-profit, community development, hospitality, and tech sectors. After a decade in Memphis, TN, Katie moved to WNC in 2019 and redirected her focus to a full-time art and design practice.

In her work, Katie creates with ceramics, drawing, painting, and installation – all including bold color combinations, architectural features, illustrative flora/fauna, and layers of time and place. Her art explores nature vs. nurture, human connection, and shifting spaces. Each piece of art or design collaboration is infused with a blended experience of being a woman, family member, caregiver, community member, consumer, and citizen.

She is a member of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts and currently works from a home studio.
